Jose Molina, writer of the episode “Famous Last Words” has agreed to join us for a special chat on Tuesday November 3rd.
In addtion to writing for and producing Castle, Jose’s past TV involvement includes series’ like Without a Trace and Law & Order SVU but he is perhaps best known for his work on Joss Whedon’s Angel and Firefly as a story editor and writer of the episode Ariel and co-writer of the episode Trash.
The chat session will be on Tuesday 3rd November (are we really in November already??), starting at 11pm Eastern Time (8pm Pacific Time). The rules will be simliar to last time but I will clarify a few things soon.
Special Guest Chat Rules
- Only registered users can enter the chat room. If you haven’t registered you may do so right away via http://www.castle-tv.net/chat
- Always remember to be polite to our guest and to others in the room.
- Important messages from our moderators may be posted throughout the chat session, these messages will be posted in red. If you see a red message, please take the time to read it as it may contain important information. For this reason, please do not change your text colour during the chat session, all users must use the default black.
- Questions can be submitted in advance so feel free to start thinking now. You can submit questions via our forums at http://www.castle-tv.net/forum…..ose-molina
- There will be two rooms running during the special guest chat session. The Question Room will be for people to submit their questions and the Guest Room will be where the actual chat with the guest takes place (this is different to our usual set up of General and Episode Chat).
- The chat room will be open for 30 minutes before the chat begins to enable people to start submitting questions in the Question Room. Our moderators will track all the submitted questions to be asked once our guest arrives.
- Once our guest arrives everyone will be invited to move over to the Guest Room.
- A moderator will post the questions and our guest will be invited to answer them. If time allows and our guest is willing we will open the floor for direct questions and general chat later in the session.
- Think of this chat session as a Q&A with a guest on stage (like at a convention). It is important that when someone is speaking – either to ask a question or our guest answering one do NOT interrupt. You may only post during the actual Q&A session if our guest asks you a direct question.
- DO NOT send private messages to our guest. Anyone caught doing so will be removed for the remainder of the chat session. Please respect our guest’s privacy.
- During the chat session please avoid using smileys as they can be disruptive.
- If the guest agrees a transcript of the chat session may be posted to our site after the chat is over.
- While every effort will be made to ensure the chat goes ahead we ask you to understand that there may be circumstances under which the chat will be rescheduled.
TIME ZONES: The chat session will be open starting from the following times (half an hour before our guest arrives). USA: Eastern Time 10:30pm, Pacific Time 7:30pm. UK: TBC (Wed). Australia: Eastern DLS: TBC (Wed)

I hope you'll let us submit some questions ahead of time since I will be out of town all next week and not anywhere close to a computer. I still haven't gotten the darned Java to load and may have to resort to getting an assist from someone at the computer shop. I've "enabled" it on my browser (as far as I can tell) and done everything else that the sites suggest…just no luck at this point. Since I won't be here on the 3rd anyway, it doesn't make any difference. However, if you're going to keep getting us wonderful chat guests, I am definitely going to want to be in the chat room. You are AWESOME, Admin. Thanks so much for doing this. This is the BEST fan site going!!!!!

You can submit questions ahead of time, just post them here. I can't guarantee all questions will be asked (there are always double ups etc and time is obviously limited) but I do my best to cover as much as possible.
I'll start a new thread on troubleshooting chat later and see if we can fix the problems some people are having.

Two Questions for Mr Molina:
1. I'd like to know how the writers coordinate a specific story line from week to week. For example, we know there's a story line about Beckett's mother's death. So, how do the writers handle incorporating that particular thread into multiple episodes?
2. How far in advance do they plot out an ongoing story line? For example, do they know how far along the Beckett and Castle relationship is expected to progress by the last episode of season 2? Or is that something decided week by week?
Thanks Admin. Hope the chat goes well and that we can get a transcript for those of us unable to participate.

- Question: In the past few years you have been writing/producing for some very serious/intense series, are you enjoying the addition of humor to the mix when writing/producing for "Castle"? Plus, is it harder to write humor or drama?
Admin - Thank you for setting this up. I'm very much looking forward to it.

Since I seem to have trouble even getting the forum to work at busy times, I'll post a question here now.
To Jose Molina:
Do you have any particular familiarity with the current music biz in the US? The story seemed to come with an insider's knowledge. The characters were all very true to the life. (former music reporter here)
Loved the foreshadowing of the Hayley Blue character in a previous episode, via a t-shirt.
Will you be writing more for Castle?

Here's my question:
I noticed that Beckett seemed to know a lot about rehab/substance abuse. She was talking about Hayley's "exit interview" before she left rehab and how Sky wouldn't stop using until she wanted to. Did this have anything to do with her father's alcoholism? Will we find out more about that in this season?
Thanks again, Admin for putting this together!

Here's a question: "In the forums, comparisons are being made between Castle, X-Files, and Moonlighting. Specifically, people are really enjoying the budding relationship between the main characters and the 'will they/won't they' aspect of the show. Now that Season 2 has officially been picked up for a full 22 episodes, do you as a writer feel less pressure to 'make something happen' between Castle and Beckett just to generate buzz–and the all-important ratings?"
Second: "Are some characters easier to write than others, and do you identify/sympathize more with a certain character over the others?"

Admin,
Let me know if this comment and question are acceptable:
Comment & Question:
I wanted to congratulate you on your writing success and being a role model for the Latino community.
When writing a show, do you have a choice on the murder location for instance having a crime in a Hispanic/Latino community? If so, would you some way be able to represent the generally strong family bond that exists or would that be too difficult?

Two related questions for Mr. Molina:
1. When you write an episode of Castle, which comes first, the crime/mystery or the development of character interrelationships? The two fronts of the story typcially seem to be intertwined.
2. If you had to describe your theme for this episode in a single sentence, what would the sentence be? This episode seemed to be a meditation on truth, trust and family and establishing a foundation of trust to move all the relationships forward, particularly Beckett and Castle. Loved the images in the candlelight vigil at the end.
Thank you.

You and fellow writers seem to have some liberty with including small tips of the hat to shows that mainly Nathan has worked on(those his fanbase and fanbase of this show also enjoy). Frankly I think that makes watching the show and 'listening' to the show even more interesting for us the viewers(and fans!). I was wondering, since both your lead actors are Canadian born, let's have a little 'tip to the north' sometime. Frankly if a can of Tim Hortons Coffee could be sitting around the bullpen or kitchenette and someone pics it up and goes 'What the heck.' and puts it down and walks away…something like that. Enjoyed last nights show much and hope you get the opportunity to write again for Castle. ps. if props needs a can of Tim Hortons Coffee-I'd gladly send one down :)
Cheers

1. Jose, last night's episode of Castle was rockin'! Your writing really brings out the best in Nathan Fillion and all of the cast! Last night Rick Castle had a tough edge that to my delight, felt like it had a little Captain Mal in it. He was the fierce, strong protector, and for a moment, even a bit dangerous. He was also compassionate, comforting, tender, sexy, smart, and funny. You brought out so much in him with your script. I like it! When you write for Rick Castle, what kind of man do you envision him to be?
2. What is a typical day on the set like for you as Executive Producer/Writer?
3. Would you talk about the two Firefly nods in last night's episode? (I still say you are a master craftsman in the art of subtlety!)
4. Your reference to the Tarot Death card was impressively accurate. What is your experience with Tarot?
5. The lyrics were great. You said Anna Waronker did 99% of them, but what part did you play in the cool music?
Thank you for being so awesome in sharing your time and insights with us, Jose!

Have a great chat, sorry I'll miss it. Hope there is a transcript. Thanks for a great episode.
I understand that the writer is on set for their episode, what is the writing process as the show is being filmed? i.e. let's change this, how does that flow for the continuity, etc.
Thanks!
