There was no Castle episode scheduled to air this week (due to the Bachelor Finale) and the 1 year anniversary of Castle’s premiere was fast approaching so CastleTV.net worked with the cast and crew to host a special chat event dubbed “Castleversary”.

We were joined in chat by Terri Miller (Castle writer/producer), Jon Huertas, Seamus Dever, Tamala Jones AND Stana Katic! They were all on set, in the interrogation room and for the most part Terri was typing on behalf of everyone. Terri and the cast stayed back after they had finished work so that they could come and chat with the fans which was very generous of them! They stayed for an hour and a half!

There were a few technical difficulties meaning things got off to a slow start but we had a fantastic time. We had a massive turnout of at least 263 people! Terri returned to chat a little later in the evening and reported that the cast all enjoyed the chat and would like to do it again some time.

Our thanks to guests Terri, Stana, Tamala, Jon & Seamus on behalf of CastleTV.net and all those present for being so generous with their time and for being so open in answering fans’ questions.

We have posted a transcript minus lots of posts from chatters saying “hi” and “we love you” etc and we hope those of you that weren’t able to attend enjoy reading.

[Admin] I hope you’re all as excited as I am that Jon, Seamus, Tamala and possibly another mystery guest are willing to give up their time to join us and answer your questions.
[Admin] To fill those of you in who are just arriving Terri Miller, who we’ve chatted with before (she’s a writer/producer for the show) will be typing for each of our guests
[Admin] Thank you all for coming and being patient
[Admin] And a big thank you to my three mystery moderators who are helping out
[Admin] We’re going to get started, and Terri is here with…..
[Admin] Seamus!
[Admin] Welcome Terri & Seamus and thank you both for being here
[Admin] And Jon has joined us too
[Admin] so Hi Terri, Jon & Seamus, welcome!
[Terri Miller] Hey, hey. This is Terri. I’ll be typing for everyone.
[Admin] We’ll start with a question for Seamus
[Terri Miller] I’ll put the person’s name in front of the answer to your questions.
[Terri Miller] and I will type as fast as I can :)
[Terri Miller] forgive my typos
[Terri Miller] am I on?
[Terri Miller] is this thing on?
[Admin] yes you are
[Admin] we appear to be having some technical problems, please bare with us
[Admin] [luvmydautr] Your wife is going to be guest staring on an episode of Castle, what was it like working with her?
[Terri Miller] Seamus _ It’s wonderful. We’ve worked together before.
[Terri Miller] She’s visited the set so many times, it was nice to have her be part of the scene.
[Terri Miller] Jon says she’s been to set so many time we HAD to put her in the scene.
[Terri Miller] Seamus – Jon and Nathan hit on her all the time.
[Terri Miller] Tamala is here now too?
[Terri Miller] Jon – Is hugging her a lot technically hitting on her?
[Admin] On behalf of everyone, welcome Tamala
[Terri Miller] Question?
[Terri Miller] Let the ones you know in
[Admin] thursdayschild] Will we see more of Ryan’s personal life in upcoming episodes?
[Terri Miller] yikes
[Terri Miller] sorry
[Terri Miller] Seamus – I think so and I hope so
[Admin] (For Jon) [Marbs84] Will we get a back story on your characters this season? Or maybe next? What would you like to see from your characters as the season(s) progresses?
[Terri Miller] Terri – I think we will find out more about his relationship with Jenny and how he got to the 12th precinct
[Terri Miller] Jon – You’re about to hear a lot more about Esposito and his past. I’d like to bring in a bit more about him being a veteran and being proud of that.
[Terri Miller] Terri – We’re going to get into everyone’s backstories… the longer we’re on the air, the more time we’ll have to develop everyone.
[Terri Miller] Jon – I would also like to see a steamy love scene between Esposito and Lanie. Tamala (giggles) You are retarded, Jon.
[Terri Miller] Question for Tamala
[Admin] (for Tamala) [molly_littlecastle] Do you get scared of the “dead people”/bloody stuff on “Castle” that is associated with your character?
[Terri Miller] Tamala -No, not at all. I’m having fun between takes… joking with the dead people that lay on my slab.
[Admin] By request of our guests we’re going to make this a little more fun … and a little reward for the regular chatters and we’re going to un-silence some people so they can respond. We can’t un-silence everyone right now as we have around 200 people here.
[Terri Miller] Yay
[Terri Miller] Hey Ashley!
[Terri Miller] Hey hey hey hey
[Terri Miller] Next Question?
[Admin] goodie] How long until Lanie tries literally smacking sense into Beckett?
[Terri Miller] Seamus – No, but I have a kickass Facebook page that everyone can look at and chat with me
[Terri Miller] Lanie LOVES Beckett
[greymind] You’re an excellent facebooker Seamus!
[FictionAddiction] Seamus without a twitter is like a 3-turret castle. It really needs that 4th corner on the team.
[ashley_slomo] yes, Seamus you are an awesome facebooker!
[Karalaine] Its okay Seamus, Twitter is like crack
[ashley_slomo] Jon, you’re a good twitterer too
[Terri Miller] We have me and Seamus and Jon and Tamala
[Terri Miller] Our pleasure!!!!
[Terri Miller] We’re all really happy to be here
[ltlsmurf] And Seamus…You are a gracious Facebooker…great to respond.
[Admin] are we ready for another question?
[Terri Miller] Yes I am
[Admin] for Tamala [Castle_is_Perfect] I LOVE your character! What has been the most exciting/fun episode for you?
[Terri Miller] hello?
[Admin] lets stick to me asking the questions but if you’re un-silenced you can respond once the guests have answered… ok?
[Admin] for Tamala [Castle_is_Perfect] I LOVE your character! What has been the most exciting/fun episode for you?
[Terri Miller] Tamala – The Halloween episode was the best because we all were there and we all had the most fun we ever had
[Terri Miller] Jon – Terri is grinning from ear to ear because she is the one who wrote that
[Terri Miller] Terri – this is true
[FictionAddiction] “I’ve got to see a man about a corpse” is STILL my favourite line of the entire show!
[sarah_darling] and we sure loved that episode
[neodnut] Loved the Halloween episode!!
[JessicaRosen] It was a remarkably good episode.
[Dj] the costumes were awesome!
[MereBelle007] one of my favourites
[mirella_209] good to see Mal again =]
[CKDexter] The ending was so epic!
[Nerwen Aldarion] Loved the Halloween episode too!
[sheri] that was my favorite so far
[greymind] Everyone looked great at the party. Gotta love stakes and werewolves
[FictionAddiction] (and Vampire Weekend is still my fav ep, Terri)
[Terri Miller] Terri – We all had a good time on that one.
[JPud9245] Great writing on that episode. Lots of fun for all.
[YouSmellLikeCherries] haha Vampire Weekend was the best obviously!
[Kcat] Brilliant!
[CKDexter] Did you guys get to choose your own consumes??
[Terri Miller] Jon – yes. Seamus – yes. Tamala – no.
[Terri Miller] Tamala is very surprised right now
[Terri Miller] I keep getting knocked off-line
[Terri Miller] That was Nathan.
[Admin] For Seamus [Kalliope] How is Ryan similar to you and how he’s different from you?
[Admin] Terri appears to be having problems
[Admin] Sorry folks
[Admin] Can I remind people please, to not ask questions or interrupt while Terri is responding for our guests
[Admin] And please bare with us during our technical problems
[shellerinka] how many people on chat??
[Admin] around 259
[Terri Miller] Ahhh we’re back!
[red] Terri, what is Castle’s middle name?
[Terri Miller] not telling
[Terri Miller] okay, quick ask a question
[Admin] For Seamus [YouSmellLikeCherries] Any progress made in getting Evangeline Lilly as your love interest
[Terri Miller] Seamus – Didn’t know I was working on it!
[Admin] I think that was supposed to be for Jon
[Admin] sorry
[Terri Miller] Ooohhhh, I think that might be Nathan’s project.
[Admin] for Seamus [Kalliope] How is Ryan similar to you and how he’s different from you?
[Terri Miller] Seamus – That’s a big one, but we’re probably a lot more alike than we are different
[Terri Miller] Seamus – one thing that’s different is that Ryan’s more awkward around women.
[Terri Miller] But we’re both closet nerds
[Terri Miller] Jon – says that Ryan is not a closet nerd, he’s out
[Terri Miller] Stana’s here
[Terri Miller] next
[Admin] welcome to our mystery guest – yes! It’s Stana Katic :)
[Admin] For Tamala [NinjaLurker] Lanie has a very dry sense of humor. Is that similar or different to your own sense of humor?
[Terri Miller] Yes we do!
[Terri Miller] Stana – Thank you
[Admin] a reminder that please, if you’re un-silenced don’t interrupt when we’re waiting for question being answered, thanks.
[Terri Miller] Tamala – I’m a lot funnier.
[Terri Miller] Tamala – I’ve always been goofy as a kid and still am as an adult. At least that’s what all my friends tell me.
[Terri Miller] next
[Admin] For Stana [specialkforme] “Sucker Punch” was the most heartwretching episode yet. How does a difficult scene or episode effect you?
[Terri Miller] Stana- The most interesting to play because you’re actually delving into character. So it’s not that it affects me in a negative way. It’s challenging and exciting and those are the kind of pieces I want to work on.
[Terri Miller] next
[Admin] for all [sheryllnkansas] What do you enjoy about or what motivates you the most about acting?
[Terri Miller] Stana – I think there are moments that you completely believe in what has been created where everybody is completely committed to the scene, the moment. It’s just exciting to experience that because that’s the drug of it.
[Nerwen Aldarion] Stana: There is an 8 year old boy named Taigen who wants to say Hi! Hi!
[Terri Miller] Jon – What, Stana, you mean I’m not a real cop?
[Terri Miller] Stana – Tell Taigen I say hello.
[YouSmellLikeCherries] haha Jon, always the comedian
[greymind] that’s so sweet
[thursdayschild] haha funny Jon
[TheBeckettOnion] What?!! Jon’s not a real cop?!
[luvmydautr] Rain on poor Jon’s parade…not a real cop
[JessicaRosen] Jon, real cops don’t have to hide in fake bathrooms to stay out of shots.
[Nerwen Aldarion] Thank you Stana, you made a little boy’s day
[TheBeckettOnion] Completely messes with my perception of reality…
[Terri Miller] Tamala – Acting was always a dream for me, since I came out of the womb. It’s therapeutic and it’s fun. That’s my motivation.
[Terri Miller] next
[Admin] For all [Pamela_J.] Is there a characteristic or trait of your character that you would change, given the chance? If so, what? And how would you change it?
[Terri Miller] Seamus – Be a better cop.
[vacerrosa] Awwww, I think Ryan is a perfectly fine cop. =P
[ShutTheFrontDoor] haha, I think you’re a great cop
[Terri Miller] Jon, Tamala – Wouldn’t change a thing
[Terri Miller] next
[Admin] For all [Nomi-Nu] What is the one thing you have always wanted to do, but never been game enough to?
[Terri Miller] On the show or anywhere?
[Admin] anywhere
[Terri Miller] Jon – I pretty much try to do everything and I still have a long list
[Terri Miller] Tamala – Sky dive
[Nerwen Aldarion] Wow isn’t sky diving dangerous?
[Nomi-Nu] I would love to sky dive actually but I’m a major chicken!
[Terri Miller] Seamus – Seamus – Seamus!!!!
[Terri Miller] Seamus – I made a list of 10 things that scared me 10 years ago and I systematically crossed them off. Bar fight was the worst.
[greymind] Did you win?
[TheBeckettOnion] did you win?
[sheryllnkansas] did you win?
[Kcat] You are all so brave!
[JessicaRosen] Dig you, Seamus – what a great approach to living.
[Nomi-Nu] Oh, that’s a great Idea Seamus, mind if I steal it??
[sunshine_minx] Terri, are you at the office now? Is that how you’re all able to be together?
[Terri Miller] We’re all in interrogation room one on set
[Terri Miller] Seamus – Just don’t get arrested… be careful.
[Terri Miller] Coldest room on set (says everybody)
[Terri Miller] One more question for Stana then she has to go.
[Admin] For Stana [belle_lover] How much do you enjoy viewing all the submissions for “Fan Photo of the Week”?
[Terri Miller] Stana – A lot! I’m just blown away by how talented and funny people are with their projects
[sheryllnkansas] Big smile
[yoojoo] totally awesome! high five Kansas!
[Dj] props to all of you guys who have been on there so far!
[Silver] That crime board is currently my desktop!
[ShutTheFrontDoor.] I loved the crime board!
[YouSmellLikeCherries] nice job Kansas and Slomo! *slap* five
[MnCastleFan] Stana, We are working on one this week, so be ready, see you
[beckett_fan] BIG BIG BIG SMILE … I love that you are committing to your fans :D
[Kalliope] I’m so happy you put there my calendar! Greetings from Warsaw, BTW! :)
[ashley_slomo] SuperBeckett & Castle-Man are appreciative :P
[hrhighness] who’s your favorite author?
[Terri Miller] Stana – my favorite author – I just finished reading a book that Seamus gave me last year called Master & Margarita
[Terri Miller] Stana – Thanks for coming to chat with me… Bye…..
[Admin] On behalf of everyone here, especially those who can’t respond right now, we’d like to thank Stana for coming and being part of our chat
[Terri Miller] okay, we have 10 more minutes
[Terri Miller] next
[Admin] For Tamala [sheryllnkansas] Your delivery of lines such as “No, Mr. Bishop has no life, that’s why he’s on my table”? is simply (straight-faced) perfect, are you enjoying playing Lanie as much as we are enjoying your performance of her?
[Terri Miller] Tamala – I love playing Lanie. She’s smart, she’s strong and she has a huge heart. Jon – And a great bootie.
[FictionAddiction] I didn’t know ‘bootie’ was a character trait.
[sheryllnkansas] thank you Tamala!
[luvmydautr] gotta love you Jon
[yoojoo] You would Jon…you would lol
[ShutTheFrontDoor.] hahaha, oh Jon…
[Terri Miller] our lights go out on stage at 8 we’ll be in the dark!
[Terri Miller] Tamala never gets to see this stuff
[Terri Miller] Okay, time is a fleeting
[Admin] For Seamus [deadman] Was it your idea and what was the reason behind Seamus carrying a “Richard Castle” book around in the station?
[Terri Miller] Seamus – My idea
[greymind] It’s a perfect addition
[MnCastleFan] nice
[JessicaRosen] Clever piece of business.
[maryc] its a great bit of business, Seamus
[Terri Miller] Seamus – Taken from the first episode, Ryan doesn’t start out as a Castle fan but becomes one through the process.
[Terri Miller] Seamus – And they’re all Beckett’s books that he’s reading too.
[Dj] nice touch, Seamus!
[Karalaine] Just never gave them back? Lol
[Terri Miller] Tamala says Bye and you love everybody
[Terri Miller] she loves
[Terri Miller] whoops, tenses confused
[Admin] Thank you so much for joining us Tamala
[Terri Miller] One last question for the gang?
[maryc] Andrew Marlow GREAT Exec Producer, or GREATEST Exec Producer?
[Terri Miller] Greatest in bed! [Admin note: Terri Miller & Andrew Marlowe are married]
[Admin] ok one more coming up
[Admin] for all [FictionAddiction] Who or what was your inspiration to get into acting?
[The Gunshark] *jaw drops*
[FictionAddiction] lol
[sarah_darling] LOL!!! best answer ever Terri
[ashley_slomo] LOL! Terri – not fair :P
[sheri] LOL
[ShutTheFrontDoor.] haha, omg
[maryc] WOAH
[Terri Miller] This is Jon…Terri’s as big a perv as I am!!!
[Terri Miller] computer hijacked!
[Terri Miller] Happy Castleversary to all of you too!
[Terri Miller] I’ll let Jon and Seamus type their own good-byes.
[Terri Miller] Jon – Okay one more question!
[Admin] Question for Jon [Kalliope] How is Esposito similar to you and how he’s different from you?
[Terri Miller] Jon – Esposito’s not as mean to Ryan as I am to Seamus…but other than that, The writers let me bring a lot of myself into the character.
[Terri Miller] Seamus – thanks and we will see you again soon.

Very Special Anniversary Chat February 23rd, 2010

FEB 28 UPDATE : We announced to visitors to our chat room today that we’ll be joined by THREE cast members for this special Castle Anniversary chat.

—————————

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost a year since “Castle” first went to air back in March 2009.  In that time we watched as a short Season 1 gave way to Season 2 and the audience grew week by week.  ABC showed faith ordering the back 9 episodes in October and then surprised fans by adding an additional two episodes in January bringing the Season 2 total to 24.  The tie in novel “Heat Wave” by Richard Castle was released in September and shot straight onto the New York Times Bestseller list where it remained in the top 30 for 16 weeks and moved into it’s 8th print run.

This week ABC released new T-Shirt designs and announced the title and release date for the second Nikki Heat novel.

It’s been busy here at CastleTV.net and we’ve enjoyed spreading all the latest “Castle” news,  watching the fan base grow and connecting fans with the Cast and Crew through a number of special chat sessions.  The community has grown quickly forcing us to upgrade servers twice (with another upgrade planned in the near future) as “Castle” has become more and more popular.

We’re very excited to announce that we’ll be celebrating the 1 year anniversary of Castle with a special chat session.  We’ll have a member of the cast stopping by!

But…. we’re not going to tell you who the guest is, we’d like it to be a surprise (yes,  I am evil!).  Questions will be taken in advance (as per the chat rules below) but instead of asking you to submit questions for a particular person we’ll ask you to submit questions for ALL the cast members .

The chat will take place on Monday March 1 beginning at 10pm Eastern time ( There is no Castle scheduled to air this week).

TIME ZONES:
The chat session will be open starting from the following times (half an hour before our guest arrives).
USA: Eastern Time 10:00 pm,  Pacific Time 7:00 pm.  UK: 3:00 am (Tue).  Australia: Eastern DLS: 2:00 pm (Tue)

The following chat rules will apply.

Special Guest Chat Rules

  1. Please register before entering the chat room.  If you are not already registered you may do so right away via www.castletv.net/chat
NOTE ATT Users, there’s an issue with registration emails being blocked, please enter the chat as a guest this week if you have tried to register and did not receive an email.
  2. Always remember to be polite to our guest and to others in the room.
  3. Important messages from our moderators may be posted throughout the chat session, these messages will be posted in red. If you see a red message, please take the time to read it as it may contain important information.  For this reason, please do not change your text colour during the chat session, all users must use the default black.
  4. Questions can be submitted in advance so feel free to start thinking now.  You can submit questions via our forums at http://castletv.net/forums/events/anniversary-chat any time or in the Question Room in chat an hour before the chat session begins.
  5. There will be three rooms running during the special guest chat session.  The Lobby is the default chat room where you can chat with others about anything before the scheduled  chat session begins. The Question Room will be for people to submit their questions and the Guest Room will be where the actual chat with the guest takes place (this is different to our usual chat room set up).
  6. The chat room will be open for 30 minutes before the chat begins to enable people to start submitting questions in the Question Room.  Our moderators will track all the submitted questions to be asked once our guest arrives.
  7. Once our guest arrives everyone will be invited to move over to the Guest Room. Once in the guest room visitors will be “silenced” by our moderators to prevent people interrupting our guest’s Q&A time.  This is a new feature we are trialling to help the chat run more smoothly for everyone.
  8. A moderator will post the questions and our guest will be invited to answer them.  If time allows and our guest is willing we will open the floor for direct questions and general chat after the formal Q&A has finished.  At this time visitors will be un-silenced by our moderators.
  9. Think of this chat session as a Q&A with a guest on stage (like at a convention).  It is important that when someone is speaking – either to ask a question or our guest answering one do NOT interrupt.  You may only post during the actual Q&A session if our guest or a moderator asks you a direct question.
  10. If our guest chooses to remain for an open chat session after the Q&A, please do not ask inappropriate questions, do not ask for favours (eg, can I have an autograph, can I visit the set, etc) and at all times remain respectful.  Anyone not abiding by these rules may be removed and banned from future guest chats.
  11. DO NOT send private messages to our guest.  Anyone caught doing so will be removed for the remainder of the chat session and may be banned from future guest chats.  Please respect our guest’s privacy.
  12. During the chat session please avoid intentionally using smileys as they can be disruptive.
  13. If the guest agrees a transcript of the chat session may be posted to our site after the chat is over.
  14. While every effort will be made to ensure the chat goes ahead we ask you to understand that there may be circumstances under which the chat will be rescheduled.

Chat Transcript – Jose Molina Feb 10 February 17th, 2010

CastleTV.net Special Guest chat
with Castle Writer/Producer Jose Molina
Feb 10, 2010

Castle writer Jose Molina was a special guest in the CastleTV.net chat room on Tuesday 10th February after the episode he wrote “Suicide Squeeze” aired on Monday. We broke previous records with a total of 91 chatters (accordign to logs) visiting during Jose’s session. The formal Q&A session lasted almost an hour and Jose answered questions that had been submitted in advance. After the formal session was over Jose stayed for a further 40 minutes for an informal chat where chat room visitors were able to ask further questions and chat with Jose in an relaxed manner.

Our thanks to Jose from CastleTV.net and all those present for being so generous with his time and for being so open in answering fans’ questions.

[Jose Molina] hello, Castle nerds!
Greetings from all the chatters snipped
[Moderator] ok, now that everyone’s had a chance to say hi, are you ready for some questions Jose?
[Jose Molina] ready, freddy
[Moderator] Ok first question!
QUESTION: [kitten] Was the order for the two additional episodes an unexpected request from the network. Is it considered a vote of confidence in the series that they want to air two more episodes? Does such a request bode well for a 3rd season renewal in the near future?
[Jose Molina] the order wasn’t a huge surprise — we’d been hearing rumblings about it for a while, but were anxiously awaiting confirmation
[Jose Molina] I think it’s a huge vote of confidence
[Jose Molina] it seems like they’re really behind the show
[Jose Molina] and I would say it (and our solid ratings) bode well for S3
[Jose Molina] especially considering how often they’ve been rerunning the show and how well the show’s been doing in repeats
[Jose Molina] I won’t jinx the show by saying anything…
[Jose Molina] but I’m cautiously optimistic
QUESTION: [PeTJa] If it was up to you, how many seasons would (realistically speaking) Castle have?
[Jose Molina] 5-6, maybe? maybe 7?  I think eventually we have to evolve c/b to another stage in their relationship
[Jose Molina] and when they get too serious, the cop work I think has to come to an end
[Jose Molina] since the cop work is really just foreplay
[Jose Molina] if they were married doing cop work the show would turn into hart to hart!
QUESTION: [Janet M]  Of the Castle episodes left in season 2, how many are you writing?
[Jose Molina] I think I’m done for S2. there’s a lot of work to be done, but my responsibilities from here on out (in all likelihood) will be to help the other writers break/craft their eps
[Jose Molina] I’d love to do 1 more, but I don’t think it’s likely
QUESTION: [sschenec] Would you ever consider directing as well?
[Jose Molina] I’d love to direct, but I still have a lot to learn before I can make that happen
[Jose Molina] working with Rob Bowman on 207 was incredibly educational
[Jose Molina] I learned a lot of how a good director works
[Jose Molina] but also learned how much I DON’T yet know
[Jose Molina] someday, I hope, but not Terribly soon
QUESTION: [m_hanh] How many takes did you have to do for that catch scene at the precinct, where Beckett snags the ball?
[Jose Molina] not as many as you’d think. she was pretty good.
[Jose Molina] the shot that’s in the show was probably take 2 or 3
[Jose Molina] ironically, stana kept dropping the ball when we were doing the close-ups
[Jose Molina] at which point, of course, it didn’t matter if she caught it or not, since the ball was off camera
[Jose Molina] and yet she blew a couple of takes because she wanted to catch the o.c. ball!!! [Admin Note: o.c = Off Camera]
[Jose Molina] it was pretty funny
QUESTION: [Tal] How did you come up with the idea for the B Story in last night’s episode (the mind reading scenes)
[Jose Molina] it was Andrew’s idea — he wanted to do something thematic w/ the “missing parent” idea that drives the A story [Admin Note: Andrew = Andrew W. Marlowe, Castle's Creator & Exec Producer]
[Jose Molina] so he decided to pull “Castle’s missing dad” out of moratorium
[Jose Molina] I was happy to be the beneficiary of that
[Jose Molina] especially b/c I got to write the final scene w/ Alexis
[Jose Molina] which is one of my favorite scenes in the ep
QUESTION: [sschenec] I noticed you listed also as Producer, I think last nights episode had the best guest stars in terms of performance yet. As writer and Exec Prod, did you have anything to do with the casting?
[Jose Molina] yes, the producers and the directors attend the auditions and put their heads together re: who we want to cast
[Jose Molina] sometimes we disagree and have to come to some sort of consensus, but on this ep we were all 100% in sync
[Jose Molina] from ray wise to vanessa martinez to chandra west and on down the cast list, we all looked at each other and went “yep”
[Jose Molina] Ray didn’t audition, but when his name came up we all went “yep”
QUESTION: [Kath] Are  there intentional similarities between “Castle” and “Remington Steele” (the shows, not the characters…though that too would be an interesting study in comparison!), or if he or the other show-runners might be subconsciously yet creatively influence by the 80s classic or if perhaps I have just fashioned the importance of these similarities in my head!
[Jose Molina] I don’t think we’ve often talked about Remington Steele
[Jose Molina] a lot of us on the writing staff are children of the 80s, so it’s in there somewhere, but we’re not consciously trying to imitate it
QUESTION: [DJ] What’s great about Castle is that it can switch in tone depending on the episode and even the scene, yet it all still feels like Castle. Who decides what kind of overall tone each episode takes? Are you forced to write a heavy episode just because the ones before it are more light-hearted, just to get a balance?
[Jose Molina] sometimes you do get assigned to do something that’s specific tonally because of what has come before it
[Jose Molina] for instance, we knew Sucker Punch would be dark, so we needed two light, romantic episodes in front and in back of it
[Jose Molina] and we were going off book for 11, 12, 13, 14, so 15 needed to be more in the “classic Castle” mode
[Jose Molina] the ultimate decision maker is Andrew, but sometimes we pitch him something off-tone that he really likes and he’ll decide to do it next
[Jose Molina] both my episodes were influenced to some degree by what came before and after
[Jose Molina] but that happens a lot when you’re on a staff
[Jose Molina] sometimes that’s a bonus and sometimes it’s not
QUESTION: [The Gunshark] I think one of the missed opportunities for the show is the chance to introduce an arch-nemesis. Was there any consideration to keep Rathbourne alive or to create a multi-episode arc for a new villain?
[Jose Molina] keep in mind that Rathborne was only the trigger man
[Jose Molina] the Big Bad is still out there
[Jose Molina] we’ve talked a lot about the shape of the Beckett arc
[Jose Molina] and we agree that the show can’t become serialized — that’s not what people want to see week in/week out
[Jose Molina] Beckett’s mom can become a spectre that lingers over the show and makes it too dark
[Jose Molina] so we felt it was important to do a story where we could make significant progress — both from an emotional and plot standpoint — and then cut off its legs at the end
[Jose Molina] but there’s a lot more to the Johanna story
[Jose Molina] we haven’t seen the last of it by a long shot
QUESTION: [Marbs84]  I think that it’s nice that Alexis feels comfortable coming to Beckett for an advice. Will we see that relationship develop more this season and carry on over to the next season?
[Jose Molina] it’s definitely something we talk about and enjoy. We’ll probably see a little more in S2 — if we don’t, then (assuming there is a S3) we’ll no doubt see it in S3
[Jose Molina] there’s no current b-story between Alexis/Beckett
[Jose Molina] but that doesn’t mean there won’t be one in the final 4
[Jose Molina] we’ll see
QUESTION: [Marbs84]  Will we see Beckett’s old flame FBI Agent Will Sorenson again?
[Jose Molina] not anytime soon. bailey (who plays sorenson) is on another show, so we’re not allowed to use him.
[Jose Molina] we had a GREAT story for him, but we had to shelve it when he got the other gig
QUESTION: [MorrisGrad09]  First of all, Jose, this is SO awesome that you take the time to do this. I love the show, and I just have to pass along the fact to that my fiance and his unit in Kuwait loves the show too (they’ve been watching Season 1). So, without further ado, my question  – If money and time and space were not an issue, what would be the next project you’d like to work on? (Which is hopefully years and years and years down the road after Castle is over with, of course.)
[Jose Molina] aww — thanks!
[Jose Molina] if I could pick anything, I’d be writing the script to “The Hobbit!”
[Jose Molina] I also heard they’re making an “Alien” prequel — I’d pay to be involved in writing that!
[Jose Molina] realistically, I have a few things I’ll work on when time permits
[Jose Molina] a feature and a comic book are at the top of my list
[Jose Molina] I have the stories in my head, I just need the time to write them!
QUESTION: [enigmaticnotion]  Who is the favorite character you have ever written for?
[Jose Molina] duh, Richard Castle
[Jose Molina]
[Jose Molina] and jayne
[Jose Molina] I loved jayne
QUESTION: [Kcat]  When you tweet, I can’t help but sometimes think that you remind me of Captain Mal. How much of you is Mal?
[Jose Molina] also mulder — although those scripts never got produced
[Jose Molina] you’ll see when the Firefly story comes out that I like to dwell inside Mal’s head
[Jose Molina] mostly because I really relate to the guy on a lot of levels
[Jose Molina] he hates bullshit, but he’s often dragged through it and he deals with it with humor and exasperation at the same time
[Jose Molina] I wish I could say you see ME in MAL instead of the other way around, but I just hit it off with that guy (who was created in full by Joss)
QUESTION: [Nomi-Nu] Who is the person who has influenced you the most – either professionally or personally?
[Jose Molina] Stephen King is a  huge influence, creatively
[Jose Molina] both professionally and personally, the late Michael Piller made a HUGE difference in my life
[Jose Molina] I can safely say (no exaggeration) that w/o Michael I would not be here
[Jose Molina] he was an awesome person, an incredible teacher who loved giving young people opportunities and helped them find their voice
[Jose Molina] taken too soon at age 57
QUESTION: [sheryllnkansas]  Is there something/anything you would never write about?
[Jose Molina] sheryll, for what reason?
[Jose Molina] for moral/ethical reasons?
[Jose Molina] the only thing I can think of is I’d never write about anything I find boring
[sheryllnkansas] I don’t know.. sounded like at good question at the time.. ask one of my other ones.. please Admin.. *goes and hides*
[Jose Molina] lol
[Jose Molina] I wouldn’t shy away from anything for fear of “what will people think?”
[Jose Molina] for instance, I was writing a feature once, and I described it to my brother as “it makes Seven look like Winnie the Pooh”
[Jose Molina] for comical reasons…
[Jose Molina] I did write the line “smells like crotch”… so I’m not shy on that front, either!
[Jose Molina] the short answer is no, I guess.  if I can find an interesting way of writing about it, I probably would.
QUESTION: [cko] Can you be honest with us, and tell us which of the Castle characters is your favorite, and why?
[Jose Molina] Castle is my favorite
[Jose Molina] he’s intelligent, and a smartass, and funny and insightful and a great dad and a great friend
[Jose Molina] and there’s the matter of that Nathan guy delivering your lines. who WOULDN’T want to write that guy?!
[Jose Molina] I don’t write much about the suave Castle cause I don’t know squat about that
[Jose Molina] lol
QUESTION: [Danielle] What’s your daily schedule usually like in the business? Are you constantly busy?
[Jose Molina] yes
[Jose Molina] the show takes up 95% of your workday
[Jose Molina] and often a good chunk of your personal life
[Jose Molina] we arrive in the morning and, if we’re not writing, we join the room [Admin Note: see below for explanation of 'the room"]
[Jose Molina] we work together in the room until lunch
[Jose Molina] if we’re slammed we’ll have lunch brought in, otherwise we’ll take a break for lunch
[Jose Molina] then we come back and jump back in the room till it’s time to go home
[Jose Molina] it’s pretty intensive
[Jose Molina] and when you’re writing/prepping/in production… forget it
[Jose Molina] say goodbye to your life
[Jose Molina] we all have very understanding spouses/partners
[Jose Molina] who know that when you’re “up” you check your life at the door
[Jose Molina] production is the most taxing (usually)
[Jose Molina] you start at 7 a.m. on monday and wrap at 3-5 a.m. that friday night/sat morning
QUESTION: Jose – would you mind explaining “the room” for us?
[Jose Molina] sure
[Jose Molina] the room is “the writer’s room”
[Jose Molina] it looks like a regular conference room except that most walls are covered with dry erase boards
[Jose Molina] the writers all sit around the table or pace the room and one or two people take point on the boards
[Jose Molina] each board is usually split into 6 acts
[Jose Molina] so we start talking about ideas or scenes or twists for the story
[Jose Molina] and we’ll put them where we think they might go on a boar
[Jose Molina] *board
[Jose Molina] once we have a beginning, middle and end we start at act 1 and move linearly forward
QUESTION: [maryc]  If the stars aligned, and the people needed were all free to do it, what kind of episode would you write that would utilize the talents of ALL these guest stars: Jewel Staite, Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher, Summer Glau and Ron Glass?
[Jose Molina] hmm…
[Jose Molina] well, I can only imagine I’d need a spaceship to accomodate all those folks!
[Jose Molina] it would be a disservice to the actors and the fans to cast all those guys at once
[Jose Molina] I’d love to use them one at a time and give them big juicy parts
QUESTION: [FictionAddiction] How much of what you write is changed, enhanced or cut by the rest of the writing team, and how much of a say do you have in the final edit? Do you have the power of veto over their changes?
[Jose Molina] the only person with final veto is Andrew
[Jose Molina] changes to script, edit, etc are mostly ONLY done by AWM [Admin Note: AWM= Andrew W. Marlowe]
[Jose Molina] sometimes the rest of the staff has to get involved, but that tends to be a function of time more than anything
[Jose Molina] this is a very solid staff, so we only have to jump into people’s scripts when we’ve run out of time
[Jose Molina] but ultimately the script belongs to the writer and the creator, so you’ll see some of Andrew’s writing in a lot of shows along with the credited writer
[Jose Molina] same w/ the edit
[Jose Molina] we get involved, we ask for changes, fight for moments/jokes/etc
[Jose Molina] Rob B is very involved in this part [Admin Note: Rob B = Rob Bowman, Exec Producer]
[Jose Molina] and the final edit is up to Rob B and AWM
QUESTION: We’ll have a couple more questions and after that if Jose is willing we’ll open up for anyone to chime in
QUESTION: [Elizah] WriteRCastle has twittered several times in the past few days about Castle having a mysterious new neighbor with a dog. Is this something we are going to see on the show some time soon?
[Jose Molina] the dog will eat the Heat Wave sequel and he’ll have to start over
[Jose Molina]
[Jose Molina] totally kidding, I have no idea
[Jose Molina] that Castle dude has a mind of his own
[Jose Molina] he’s in NYC, we’re in LA
[Jose Molina]
QUESTION: [ashley_slomo]   Who’s idea was it to have so much “4th-wall breakage” when it comes to certain episodes (ie. Blue Pill website, songs on iTunes, Vampire Website etc), yours or someone else’s? Will we be seeing more of that this season? It’s totally awesome.
[Jose Molina] partly the staff, partly Andrew and Terri, partly ABC
[Jose Molina] Terri and I both wanted to really cross-mojonate our shows, so we were involved in the sites
[Jose Molina] we would love to do it more
[Jose Molina] get more interactive
[Jose Molina] but time is always short and ABC doesn’t always have the time or resources that we need
[Jose Molina] I think we’re probably done w/ those shenanigans for the season, but I really hope we see more of it if there’s a season 3
QUESTION: [Nomi-Nu] It’s Karaoke at your local – what song would you sing and why?
[Jose Molina] “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” by Smashing Pumpkins – it’s incredibly cathartic
[Jose Molina] although I sometimes bust out Eminem’s “Without Me”
[Jose Molina] just to piss off some of my friends who hate rap
[Jose Molina]
QUESTION: Thank you Jose for answering all those questions! And thanks to everyone who submitted questions too.

Exclusive: ABC Orders More Castle! January 27th, 2010

Breaking news just in from our sources!  ABC has ordered two more episodes for Castle this season taking the total number of episodes for Season 2 to 24.

Since Season 2 began viewer numbers have crept up with an increase almost every week, continuing against the trend as other shows continued to lose viewers.  On October 20,  ABC ordered a further nine episodes to add to the initial season order of 13.

Last week the much anticipated episode “Sucker Punch” in which the murder of Beckett’s mother was revisited, obtained a season high in the 18-49 demographic reaching 2.8  and 9.44 million total viewers.   Castle also took the number one spot for the hour and gained more viewers than CSI: Miami in the important “women 18-34″ demographic.

This week the ratings rise continued with the episode “The Third Man” reaching a new series high of 3.1 in 18-49 with 10.5 million viewers.

No news yet on Season 3 but the signs continue to look positive.

Golden State Explains Love Song January 15th, 2010

Golden State

Since the “Castle” first aired in March 2009 with the pilot episode “Flowers For Your Grave”  viewers have made a lot of noise about the music used throughout the series.   “Castle” received an Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Music Composition For A Series” in 2009 and is expected to be nominated again in 2010.  Each week following a new episode fans can be see scouring the internet for details about songs used in the series.

This week, following the airing of “A Rose for Everafter” the internet exploded with viewers eager to find details about the song used in the final wedding scene.  CastleTV.net credited the song as “Love Song” by Golden State as did the ABC in their Castle Music Lounge however confused fans suggested that the information must have been incorrect, particularly considering lead vocalist in the song is female and Golden State is a male band.

James Grundler, composer of “Love Song” and primary songwriter for Golden State has responded exclusively to CastleTV.net to provide a little background on the song.

This is James from Golden State and yes, you guessed it, that’s not me singing Love Song. I had this song idea and it just didn’t feel right with my voice so we decided to experiment with a female voice – her name is Holly Conlan. It finally feels ‘right’ and I am really glad you like it – it fit so well in the wedding scene.

You can stream the track on the Golden State website.  The song will be available for purchase soon, to be notified when it becomes available join Golden State’s Facebook page.

Jon Huertas Chat Transcript November 28th, 2009

CastleTV.net Special Guest chat
with Castle Cast Member Jon Huertas

Tuesday November 23, 2009

Jon Huertas plays Detetive Esposito in Castle and generously accepted our invitation to spend some time chatting with fans in our special guest chat session.

Around 70 people attended the session which ran for about 45 minutes.

Our thanks to Jon on behalf of CastleTV.net and Castle fans for being so generous with his time.  You can now follow Jon on Twitter @Jon_Huertas

[huertas23] Yo it’s Jon…Finally home from work…Nathan says…”What’s up?” But it was in Canadian!
[jhuertas23] Thank you, Thank you, thank you
[Admin] Ok… now that everyone’s welcomed Jon, shall we get started?
[jhuertas23] Alright Admin…Let’s do it.
[Admin] Jon, our first question is from an anonymous person
QUESTION [Anonymous] What is it like to be Seamus’ side kick?
[jhuertas23] Sorry for being late…was just making a little TV show called Castle…
[jhuertas23] WTF?! Seamus is my sidekick!!! And I know that’s you Seamus!
QUESTION [sheryllnkansas] I believe I would have a hard time staying in character in so many humorous scenes. One in particular was the “you smell like cherries” scene.. The timing of your line “Are we interrupting something” was simply perfect. How do you “time” the delivery of such a line or practice it before filming?
[jhuertas23] We do rehearse before the actual take…
[jhuertas23] But I’ve been told by Andrew Marlowe that my timing is pretty good…
[jhuertas23] And thanks for the compliment.
[jhuertas23] A big part of it is also the support we give each other. It’s helps us tto work to perfect a scene.
QUESTION [CastleFanLisa] Who pulls the biggest pranks on set and what was the funniest thing someone did?
[jhuertas23] Wow…That’s a hard one. I think that Nathan and I pull some good pranks. Nathan TP’d Stana’s trailer with tape, Toilet Paper and othe stuff.
[jhuertas23] We’re still getting to know each other though…Think we’ve finally determined how far we can take something. So I’m gonna go after Nathan after the holidays.
QUESTION [ashley_slomo] Who in the cast is the most like the character they play on the show? The least?
[jhuertas23] Seamus is EXACTLY like Ryan!!! I’m a lot like Esposito too. And I will say that Molly is as sweet, smart and beautiful in person as she is as Alexis.
QUESTION [cko] You have such a great physical presence in all your scenes. Is it as important to “work on” how to move, stand and gesture as it is to deliver lines? And how do you “practice” or tune up for that part of a role?
[jhuertas23] Interesting question..
[jhuertas23] I don’t really work on it…I kinda fall into it. I spent eight years in the Armed Forces and you’re taught to have a certain type of presence so maybe that leaks out.
[jhuertas23] Sometimes the director will have us stand a certain way so we can trun and take the camera to the other actors though.
[jhuertas23] I think as an actor, I like to try and make strong choices that may resonate physically…especially when I’m trying not to look like Beckett’s flunkie…As it sometimes comes across on paper. :)
QUESTION [Pamela_J] Since you have begun exploring the lives of some of the other characters, is there any part of Esposito’s character that you would like to see explored or expanded upon? Also have you made any suggestions toward forming him as a character?
[jhuertas23] Andrew Marlowe, Rob Bowman and I had discussions about my character and they let bring into the back story that he was former Special Forces and NYPD ESU…That’s why I’ve always got the big guns when we breach a room or go after bad guys. And I would definitely like to see that expanded on. They are very open to ptches…
[jhuertas23] ptches is slang for pitches…or maybe I messed up…who knows.
QUESTION [Actress27] Do you ever go online and search on sites such as Youtube and Deviant Art, to see what fanmade videos and pictures there are of Castle?
[jhuertas23] I don’t but Seamus does and he’s shown me one of the two of us…
QUESTION [sarah_darling] Jon – If you could choose any guest star/guest stars to work with who would you choose any why?
[jhuertas23] Oh man I would choose Evangeline Lily…to play my love interest for several episodes and with several love scenes!!! All because she’s beautifully hot and because I actually think that she’s a talent.
[jhuertas23] Esposito needs some lovin’!
QUESTION [jillmk4@yahoo.com] Hi Jon and thanks for hanging out with us! If you weren’t an actor, what profession would you choose to be?!
[jhuertas23] I would like to direct but if that didn’t work, I’d most likely would be in Law Enforcement…that was always the backup plan.
QUESTION [BJWanlund ] Mr. Huertas, what advice do you have for aspiring actors?
[jhuertas23] Unless someone gave me a record deal!!!
[jhuertas23] I would say to study, study, study…Study Theatre…Study the actors you see in TV and Film and read plays, scripts and books…The more informed you can be, the better chance you’ll have at competing when you close your eyes and jump off the cliff.
[jhuertas23] That is what you are doing when you choose this lifstyle…it’s like jumping into an ocean full of sharks and you have to be the better prepared, stronger shark.
[jhuertas23] It’s really hard to break in but everything can be figured out…The best thing to do is make sure your heart is telling you to do it…Then you’ll be strong enough to break dow the walls with your drive, knowledge and talent.
[jhuertas23] I hope that helped a bit…
[jhuertas23] Nex ?
[jhuertas23] Dammit I can’t spell!!!
QUESTION related to your previous response… [YouSmellLikeCherries] Can you sing? A lot of fans have mentioned that a Castle: the Musical episode would be a lot of fun!
[jhuertas23] I do sing…I studied musical theatre and have had several bands…WE’ve kicked the idea around the stages too…We shall see.
QUESTION [MnCastleFan] Jon, Let me start out by saying how proud I am of you for serving our country. While filming “Castle” are there times that the writers have you say or do something that you think, “My character would never say or do that” but you still have to do it? What would be an example?
[jhuertas23] Two more okay then I’ve gotta eat…
[jhuertas23] Since they write the show and the characters…They really know what my character would say. But if I feel strongly about a moment and how he might say it, we discuss and they trust me enough to listen and most of the time let me put my spin on it.
[jhuertas23] Two more questions…next please.
QUESTION [nypinta] I was curious how you first became involved with Puppies Behind Bars.
[jhuertas23] I’ll come back again…next week if ya like.
[jhuertas23] Nice!!! Someone knows about the best friggin Charity in the Country!!!
[jhuertas23] I am now on the Board of Directors…An honor to say the least.
[jhuertas23] I became involved after I was dissatisfied by a couple of othe Veteran based charities I was working with…Someone told me about it and I contacted the office while I was out in NYC…They let me come up to their offices and I convinced them to let me be involved.
[jhuertas23] I can’t say enough about the program Dog Tags as well as the EDC dogs they train. The inmates are amazing as well as the staff and brave vets that get these amazing animals!!!
[jhuertas23] Next ? Last one and I gots to eat!!!
QUESTION Last Question for today – “So what’s with the lapel pins? I’m glad you stopped wearing that old fake pin!”
[jhuertas23] Me too!!!
QUESTION (For the benefit of most of us I think we need some explanation of what that’s about Jon) you can probably guess where the question came from…
[jhuertas23] I started wearing them in the Pilot Episode…I did some research with real NYPD Homicide Detectives and they gave me a bunch to wear so I could pay homage to them. I wore a real one in the Pilot and that prop department in NYC lost them… :{
[jhuertas23] :{
[jhuertas23] So Seamus and I ordered a bunch on our own so we could lose that fake crap and pay respect.
[jhuertas23] Seamus was instrumental in getting those pins
[Admin] Jon, thank you so very much for taking time out of your very busy schedule to connect with the fans. I think I speak for everyone when we say we all enjoyed hearing what you have to say and thank you too for offering to come chat with us again some time soon.
[MnCastleFan] Jon, It has been an great chat, good night, and thanks for being on a an entertaining show!
[sarah_darling] I’ll have to make fun of you for being on Sabrina the Teenage Witch next time…
[sheryllnkansas] Thank you Jon for chatting with us hugs to YOU. Please come back again. See, we are well behaved because WeRCastleholics!
[castlefan] Love you, Jon
